Donnie Iris And The Cruisers
Donnie Iris And The Cruisers
Donnie Iris is generally considered to be the best screamer in rock and roll. He is now an elder statesman of rock and roll. No young singer has yet upstaged him; no one ever will. Donnie is the real deal, both as a man and as a singer. He is a simple guy who wears a smile and loves his friends and his family. Life is better when Donnie is around. Here's hoping that he's around for a long time to come.

He's known for his work with the Jaggerz and Wild Cherry during the 1970s, and for his solo career beginning in the 1980s with his band, the Cruisers. He wrote the #2 Billboard hit, "The Rapper", with the Jaggerz in 1970 and was a member of Wild Cherry after the group had a #1 hit with "Play That Funky Music, White Boy" He also achieved fame as a solo artist in the early 1980s with the #29 hit "Ah! Leah!" and the #37 hit "Love Is Like a Rock."

The band was co-founded by Mark Avsec. Mark and Donnie were band-mates in Wild Cherry in the late 70s and went on to create the distinctive sound of Donnie Iris & the Cruisers in 1979. Mark was also in Breathless and created Cellerful of Noise. In addition to co-founding the band, Mark wrote or co-wrote all of the band's music, was its sole lyricist, and produced all of its albums.

Two more original Cruisers will be performing at The Kent Stage - Marty Lee Hoenes, lead guitarist, and Kevin Valentine, drummer! Marty is not only a great lead player, but also the Art Director for a very successful ad agency and oversees all the bands graphics. Kevin played drums on all of the band's early albums during the 1980s. Valentine has recorded as a member of Breathless, The Innocent, Godz, Rosie, Shadow King, The Lou Gramm Band and Neverland. In addition to performing, Kevin is an Emmy nominated recording engineer.

Have you ever seen Paul Goll play? Absolutely killer bass guitarist. When he was 15, he already was playing the bass guitar professionally. Paul has been the band's bass guitarist since 1994, and first appeared on the live album Live! At Nick's Fat Cityin 1998.

If you've never been to a Donnie Iris and the Cruisers concert, what are you waiting for?

Tickets for this show are $37.50 for Reserved Seats and Gold Circle tickets are $55. The show begins at 8pm, with doors opening at 7pm.
