Play The Kent Stage on May 5

Tony Award®-nominated singer Mary Bridget Davies will bring her powerhouse blues and rock to The Kent Stage on Saturday, May 5. Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist Mia Dyson will open the show.

Davies’ musical journey began in her hometown of Cleveland in 2001 when she first started singing in local bands, and she hasn’t slowed down since. In 2005 she won the lead role in the national touring production of “Love, Janis” – featuring the music of the Janis Joplin.

Davies toured Europe with that icon’s original band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and eventually landed the lead in “A Night with Janis Joplin.” She stayed with that production until it hit Off Broadway and then Broadway, garnering a Tony Award® nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical. The New York Times heralded her “ebullient personality and raspy tone” and said she “captured the Joplin sound perfectly.”

She now fronts her own band, touring festivals and venues worldwide.

The roots rock of Mia Dyson will be a perfect complement to the evening. Dyson released three albums while living in her native country, with 2005’s Parking Lots getting a nod for Best Blues and Roots Album from the Australian Recording Industry Association. She relocated to the U.S. in 2009, and released two more records, with her sound maturing and evolving. Dyson, who has opened for Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks and Chris Isaak, shapes her soulful sound with stellar vocal and guitar work. Her latest album, If I Said Only So Far I Take It Back drops on March 9.

Gold Circle tickets are $40, floor seats are $30 and balcony seating is $20. The show begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, Feb. 16 at www.kentstage.org and www.thekentstage.com where you can also view the full calendar of concerts. Tickets also available by phone at 877-987-6487.

The Kent Stage is located at 175 E. Main St. in Kent, Ohio.
